Houses and mountains

In "Starry Evening" I  used an acrylic wash for the deep blue sky and gold ink on the largest stars. I added all the color after the black-and-white tangling. I decided to do very little ink drawing on the houses and instead use mostly shading. The blue isn't as dark as I had envisioned but I rather like it. It seems as if the stars are brightening the sky! I was thinking of calling it "Starry Night" but I changed that to "Starry Evening"!
Tangles: Demi, Flukes, Flux, Gneiss, Pearlz.

Recently, Tangle Patterns posted string idea #64 which looked a lot like mountains to me. Here is 'Misty Mountain Moon'.

On the suggestion of an art critic who visited a few months ago I've been mounting some of my completed tiles on canvas. Sometimes I simply paint the canvas black all 'round. Sometimes the work asks for something a little more.  Here are these two pieces in their final incarnation, mounted on canvas, with a little more. (Note that both have the same black background. Blame my scanner.)

  1. You know I am a fan of your houses, but this mountain tile is gorgeous! I love how you used Msst, not only in the sky, but on the mountain top. The sun and moon in the border is way cool! I love the additional touches you added to the canvas! After seeing your post about mounting zendalas to canvas, I gave it a try and did two of them this week, to show my 1st zendala class today. They look beautiful and I am sure I will be posting them on my blog soon. Thanks again for sharing your ideas!

  2. Love your houses... reminds me of 12 Grimwald Place in Harry Potter... the houses are folding into each other. (Love this blog!)

    1. Oh my, I'll have to use that as a title sometime! :D
Isn't it Grimaldi? or Grimauld? or...?

  3. What a wonderful idea to frame on canvas. I love it.
Now...were these 3.5" or did you make them larger? What size canvas did you use.
Also when you toned or painted (with acrylic) did you use ink or fluid acrylic?
Your houses (funky houses as Jo-Ellen calls them) are becoming quite famous!
    We all adore them.

    1. Thanks! I think Jo-Ellen got the word 'funky' from me. :)
They are the standard 3.5" tiles, on 5" canvas.

  6. I love this mounting idea. Do you just use acrylic medium to mount the tiles? Your scanner does a lot better than mine, which never recognizes the graphite. I started using a camera instead. Thank you as always for your ideas and inspiration!

    1. Yes, Mary, I use acrylic matte medium as 'glue' then a protective varnish thing on top once it's dry.
