Arukas goes to town

I've been playing with the relatively new tangle Arukas and wanted to explore possibilities. Arukas went to town!

Unfamiliar with Arukas? You can watch Molly Hollibaugh (Arukas' designer) draw it on the Sakura YouTube channel here.

Here are some of the fun and rather different tiles I came up with.

Classic black on white. I did the Paradox in a 005 pen but I'm  not sure it was worth it.
Tangles: Arukas, Black Pearlz, Paradox, Pearlz, Tipple
Brown ink on a white tile. I began with three nested circles for the string. I've enjoyed using this recently. I wasn't sure that gray would work with the browns, but I put the gray shadow on at the last minute and am glad I did.
Tangles: Arukas, Black Pearlz,  a Lotus Pod
and
hints of Crescent Moon
Black on white again, this time a bit swirly.
Tangles: Arukas, Beadlines, Black Pearlz, Crescent Moon,
Pearlz, Sindoo and a Lotus Pod
I like the fuchsia ink of the Sakura pen, and I recently acquired a more 'hot pink' pen that claims to be lightfast (*crossed fingers*). I started with a blob of pink acrylic 'watercolor' and used a straw to blow five pink rays across the paper. I was liking it all except the white ray to the lower right corner; it looked way too much like a large sowbug fossil. Something had to be done! I trimmed the edges and made them striped.
Tangles: Arukas, Diva Dance (with dots), Tipple,
and a hint of Beadlines and Copada
I've seen some lovely work using blue ink on a tan tile and wanted to try that. I again used the 'blob-of-acrylic-blown-with-a-straw' technique. As you may know, "simple" is not generally in my artistic vocabulary. Some turquoise crept in, then some green, and yellow, and white. It started looking like a moon and a sun so I added stars. I'm calling it Celestina. :)
Tangles: Arukas, Drupe, Tipple
And another black-and-white one. I used a bit of gray wash in the center, and as I was almost finished I realized that it also needed more gray in the third ring around.
Tangles: Arukas, Black Pearlz, and Lacing.
I like doing a particular tangle several times. It encourages inspiration and experimentation. This is perhaps one reason why artists often work in series.

    1. I was sooooo close to her at CanTangle hoping that some of "how her mind works" would rub off on me "big time".

  3. Wonderful, you have made Arukas amazing. My absolute favourite is the blue one, with the pink running very closely behind, although all are fantastic. The blue one has an Egyptian/Tutankhamen feel to it.

    1. It does, doesn't it. I didn't see that before. I think it's the blue and tan (read: gold) stripes.

  4. These are all so wonderful, and each unique. The blue and yellow has possibly the most WOW factor, but the brown one keeps me looking to see all your wonderful techniques! Then you took the last one somewhere far, far away! Now I have to dig out that box of straws in the cupboard...

    1. Thanks Sue! Arukas wasn't a big favorite of mine but now I like it can be used partially to great effect.
