Stencil fun

It's an opportune challenge this week. We are to find something to use as a stencil, use that as a string, and tangle away. My family loves board games. Me too, but I also love the boards that are left over from poking out all the game pieces. Friends and relatives keep theirs and pass them on to me! I've been wanting for some time to try using these as zentangle strings. Here are a few:
Three leftover boards from board game pieces.

First I did a lot of circles. I traced the stencil two or three times so they would overlap.
Tangles: Black Pearlz, Crescent Moon, Kuke,
Paushalöv, Tipple, Tripoli

Next, a single grid of triangles.
Tangles: Black Pearlz, Chebucto, Coaster, Elven, Finery, Firecracker,
Fohbraid, Jonqal, Knase, Lamar, Opus, Romanancy, Tipple, Unyun

A mix of circles and squares, again overlapping.
Tangles: Black Pearlz, Cruffle, Flux, Sindoo, Tortuca?, Wud

After that, some octagons, drawn twice so they overlap.
(I was enthused by the DivaCZT's Islamic geometric patterns!)
They wanted some color too.
Tangles: Aura, Drupe, Fleurette, Knightsbridge

I just remembered some other stencils I have. Uh-oh.

  3. How do you keep your circles so concentric, your spacing so perfect, your triangles so size-consistant...beautiful work. I love looking at your artwork

    1. I'm not so great. The triangles are a stencil; you can see it on the left in the first photo.
Although I admit, I've always been good with fine motor skills. :)
Just don't ask me to paint something large with a big brush.

  6. How beautiful and how innovative. Only a true artist/crafter would think of using throw away items to make art, lol.

  8. Oh man, these are FABULOUS! I LOVE your stencils and wish I'd kept my own board game templates. Although I love them ALL - I particularly like your grid of triangles and the way some things bleed into something else. Love the boldness and color in the last one, and your Sindoo with the shine in the third one.....

    1. Thanks Sue, I like how the triangles are still plain white, in contrast to the detail of the rest of the tile. I'm kind of on to Sindoo lately!

  13. Like all of these but really like the triangle one. Like how the figure from the stencil was the white space in the tile and the tangles filled the rest of the areas.

    1. Thank you Shelly! I think drawing the stencil more than once, and overlapping the design, was the key. It forced me to bump the tangles into each other.
