Onion domes

Ever since I first saw a picture of the St. Basil's Cathedral complex in Moscow I've loved onion domes. I've been doing a lot of tile-sized ZIAs with houses and buildings that, for lack of a better idea, I've been calling 'house tiles'. Occasionally I'm incorporating color and other types of ink. Lately I've had a run of onion-domed buildings (such fun!). Here are some of them.

  1. Wow - These are fantastic - I wish I could climb inside your mind for a bit to see how your pieces evolve.

  2. i like your house tiles! these look totally different in each tile - the colors make the change really stand out.

  3. Wow, these look alot like the houses of Swiss painter Hundertwasser. check this out: love 'n greetz, Ellen I adore your houses...

  4. Thanks for the link Ellen. I also looked up Friedensreich Hundertwasser on the internet. I didn't see many onion domes in his paintings but quite enjoyed the vibrant colors! I also saw some actual buildings that he'd designed, and with onion domes. They are fabulous! As innovative and unusual as Gaudi I'd say.

  5. Love all your house tiles, but the Onion Domes are my favorites. They just spark one's imagination and brings the magical realm into our everyday lives.

  6. These are just amazing!!! You are so talented!
