Aurabunzknoto

This week the DivaCZT has presented another duo-tangle challenge: an unlikely pairing of Auraknot and Bunzo. I really like both those tangles. When I first read the challenge I thought of a circle so I did it on a Zendala tile. I used one of Geneviève Crabe's dot stencils to get the spacing.
Tangles: you know.

While doing this black-and-white piece I had a vision in my head of a rainbow of bunzos spilling out of... something. Why not Auraknot? I did a regular size tile to explore that possibility. A rainbow bunzo explosion! I like it a lot.
All of the color pens are Sakura's except the pale blue and the dark yellow. I used Prismacolor Verithin pencils for the color shading. Take care on the lovely, soft Zentangle tile paper; the verithins are a hard lead.

  1. Both beautiful, Margaret, but the topp one - stunning - I love how you have stretched out the tip of bunzo in places and, your highlighting/shading - always fabulous :)

  4. As always, Margaret, your artistic ability and design is amazing. You know that the Zendalas are not my favorite design but I do enjoy looking at yours. The number of "bunzos" that you included in that first one is totally out of the realm of reality for me. I just can't imagine doing that. I am interested in the "color shading" that appears in the second one. I see that you would have to be so gentle with the hard hard leads. But it's subtle and beautiful. I love how the Bunzos peek into the Auraknot in the second one...slipping sneakily inside. GREAT.

  5. Gorgeous! They look like oysters.

Thanks for your visit, Margaret, and for your nice comment. I can't wait to see what you do with Y-Ful Power! I am so excited to have my first pattern on the Tangle Patterns site, and I hope a lot of people really enjoy it. After a huge amount of searching online to find the step-outs for Y-Not, I was reliably informed that it's not available, so I decided I had to do my own Y-shaped pattern. I've also done Y-Pod but that hasn't appeared on the site yet, but it's on my blog. I think these Y-shaped woven patterns are fascinating.

This is a great new adventure for me! Discovering Zentangles was amazing, and I was instantly hooked, and never thought I could design any, but suddenly got the urge. You never know till you try, do you.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for all the inspiration!

  7. Wow! Such wonderful color in the second one; such beautiful shading and sparkle on every bunzo; so creative to weave the tips of bunzo's through your "frames" in the first.... so many WOW factors here!

  8. The "stems" in the first tile happened because I wanted something to connect the two tangles more!
