I'm green with tangles

The Diva's challenge this week, for the annual Irish-fest honoring St. Padraigh, is simply to use green somehow. I started six tiles with washes and spritzes of yellow and blue. There were some very interesting textures and shapes, but I hardly knew where to go from there.

I almost dumped my first tile but I rather like it finished! I had been trying Lynn Mead's (CZT) method for doing Dewdrop and that carried over into this tile. I also used Shrock as a nod to the old saint.
Tangles: Dewdrop, Shrock, Tipple
I took another spritzed tile and did quite a new tangle, Narwal from Sam Taylor. Sam works at Sakura and there's a video of how to draw Narwal here.
Tangles: Black Pearlz, Hurakán, Narwal, Prestwood, Tipple, Tortuca
This reminds me of mountains, but at first, I liked it 'upside-down' because it looked a bit like cyclones. Then I looked at it from other directions and truly don't know which way I prefer it. Here it is in all four directions. What's your choice?
Points up, down, left, or right?

  1. Margaret, All of the tiles are SPECTACULAR!!!!!!! I vote for the "up" tile, which reminds me of evergreen trees. In your description of your first tile you mentioned Lynn Mead's method of doing Dewdrop. Is there a link to this? I Googled her name and Dewdrop and came up empty. I really could use the tutorial as I struggle with this enhancement. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Wow! Both are great! I really like the second one, and not sure which way I like it. It reminds me of tornado's one way and yet it also looks like stalagmites!?! Beautifully done.

  3. Hard choice, but I think I like points down. :) Your dew drops are delightful.

  4. I adore the dew drop tile! So many wonderfully rich greens. On the narwahl tile I like the points up. It makes me think of a Seusical pine forest.

  5. They are great! Love the bubbles in the first one. And all directions of the second one. Like in an authentic Zentangle: turn and turn and turn. Every day another focus.

  9. Lovely work, as always. I'll be different...while I like the second orientation, which has that pine tree forest thing going for it, I really like the third one orientation with the Narwal's pointing left...It sort of feels like small moons floating above some alien landscape. Any way you place it, it's gorgeous!

  10. Both of these tiles are great! I like it pointing down--kinda looks like it's in a cave.

  12. Don't know if it is intentional, but I like the aquatic nature of the first one. I like the Narwal tile no matter which way you put it.

  13. Is there a place to find just the "step outs" for this tangle?
Or is it a new one and I have to wait?

  15. Love the tiles. I like all four directions. That's the great thing about Zentangle (R), you see something different with every turn of the tile.

  16. Margaret, these are amazing tiles. I love Narwal, but I only get it right about 1 out of 10 times, so I guess I need to practice more often. I love the dew drop effect and thank you for posting the link. I'm going to have to check it out.

    1. Thanks Lezli! I prefer Narwal when it's bent, but I don't usually manage to get it going that way. :s

  17. Hi Margaret , so nice to have met you at " We love To tangle" this past weekend! As usual your tiles are stellar! Love these you have posted. Your tile with the " game piece stencil " is a winner. Really enjoy your work.
