How "Treeline" came to be

By now you probably know that I love depicting houses and trees.

Interjection:  About three years ago I had done a series of tiles of the seven chakras. Each of the seven lotus mandalas is on a white Zentangle tile; I used a color wash, pen and ink, colored pencil, and tiny gems. I've searched the blog, and apparently I didn't post a picture of it back then, so before I continue with the trees, here is Chakras.

I had done two or three trees with metal foil in the background. It struck me that the long format would work well for a series of trees, but horizontal this time. It's 6"x36" and I would need nine tiles, so I did more. Here they are, loose on the table.

All have metal foil; one has holographic strips; one has silver sparkles. I decided to continue with the 'squares' theme around the sides. I alternated various acrylic metallics.

Here is Treeline, finished:

  1. I really love treeline, but I love the chakras too. I really like the metallic, neutral colors of treeline. Both vertical and horizontal are wonderful pieces of art!

  2. BOTH of these series are just stunning!!
Did you draw on actual metal foil or paint the background tiles with metallic paint before drawing. What kind of pen/ink did you draw with?

    1. Thank you Cindy! It's more like metal leaf - it's extremely filmy and tricky to work with. The backgrounds are just the foil/leaf. I didn't draw on that at all - I don't think it would be possible. I used my usual pens, Sakura microns and Pitt brush pens.

  3. Treeline! What a delightful idea! Your tiles are absolutely wonderful, Margaret! The collection is a gorgeous forest of shapes and colors. And your chakras are truly stunning ... the rainbow with its progression of hues and shades ... in places absolutely lit from within. Sooooooo compelling! Thanks for sharing. <3

    1. Thanks Jan! The yellow one was really difficult because yellow really doesn't show up much!

  5. I just strayed onto your blog to see how you are starting the year. i knew it wasn't a good idea. I knew I would get all sorts of ideas and not have the skill to complete them but still I came to look. (Here comes the really whiny voice ...) It's not fair. Those trees look so simple. So clever. So tempting. All I wanted was a quick browse for a bit of inspiration for a page I have already started. What did I get? Inspiration for the year ! Margaret, your work is lovely and that finished piece is wonderful.
