I enjoyed doing ZIA tiles for the
Mardi Gras challenge recently, partly because I really like the color combination and partly because I had a fistful of new Sakura pens to try. I decided to do a Mardi Gras mandala in the same colors, with the same feathers and beads and a little more. It began with an acrylic wash in green and purple. When I was almost finished, I decided not to do ink patterns in the light ring of circles, but rather to use colored pencil. I did the same in the center. Here's what resulted.

Tangles: Ambler, Caviar, Featherfall, Pearlz, Tri-dots, Tuscadero, and not exactly Knightsbridge. And within Tuscadero: Emingle, Knightsbridge, Tortuca, stripes, dots and whatnot. |
The whole piece is 24 cms. (9.5") square. Here's a detail of one corner. Thanks for the inspiration Laura!
Very very nice!!!

ReplyDeleteMargaret, this is so stunning! Thanks for posting the detail picture, which I have been staring at.....incredible work! How did you do the outside of the mandala?
ReplyDeleteMargaret,
ReplyDeleteThis is incredible! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteSue, if you mean the circular part, it's Carole Ohl's Featherfall tangle. If you mean the background of the whole thing that's Lara Williams' Tuscadero, a tangle I bumped into recently. It seemed fun and rowdy and appropriate for Mardi Gras! You can see it at

Thanks, Margaret...I meant the background and I appreciate the link. Somehow I missed this one and it looks great with you mandala.
