IX is a new tangle from Zentangle, presented at the ninth training seminar. You can see the drawing instructions and read the story about it
here. It's also this week's challenge from
the Diva.
I admit that when I first saw this tangle I was not smitten. It looked a bit boring. Thank goodness for the Diva's challenges is all I can say! I've become somewhat of a fan of IX! I like it, not all alone, but with some other IXes. Tipple seems to be a lovely roundy counterpoint to IX's long straight lines.

Tangles: IX, Tipple, Zedbra and Rounding |

Tangles: Deelish, Florez, IX, Parabola and a Black Pearl |

Tangles: Barnacle, Crescent Moon, IX, Tipple, Tripoli |
I think that what I particularly like about IX is that it's necessarily large. It fills a space with simple lines. I love intricate detail so much that I often got caught up in it. Can't do that with IX.
Then I tried it on one of the
'tree' tiles I'm working on for a larger project!

Wow! Are you sure you do not plan to travel to SE Texas and teach some classes? Darn. I really like these, thought I liked #2 but then I saw #3. You made it look like a slice of an agate.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Lynda
Hi Margaret, I love your tiles, especially the trees, but I must respectfully disagree about IX having to be large. Did you see mine? (TangledUpInArt) I did my IX tiny and curvy and wild. Even used the .005 pen. Did I mention how much I love your trees! They are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI had missed your post Cris so thanks for the pointer. They are interestingly different from mine! Isn't it great how everyone has their own interpretation?
DeleteMargaret, all four are superb!!! No four really takes my eye a it has so much in it!!
ReplyDeleteAll of these are great. I agree, it does make you keep it simple. Love your tree tiles, I look forward to seeing the finished piece!
ReplyDeleteYour tree tile reminds me of a totem pole. The examples with IX you've shown have got me eager to try shading it too - I didn't think it looked very exciting before seeing the above.

Thanks for including the names of your tangles - I love seeing that! These are all great! I also 'specially like that I can see how you have drawn your string and then filled in with tangles. It gives so much dimension when it's so well shaded as yours are. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Margaret. All beautiful. I love the tree tile - interesting to see IX on an elongated shape.
ReplyDeleteYour IX looks so rich and warm! I love how you shade and your designs are stunning!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely tiles with IX.
ReplyDeleteAll are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGosh Margaret, I knew you could make IX exciting....and you did!
ReplyDeletehow exciting to spot one of my tangles in amongst your gorgeous work!! (parabola)
ReplyDeleteAll are beautifuul, but the second stole my hart! A difficult tangle!
ReplyDeleteI have read so many blogs and also my opinion is what everybody else says. Not a great tangle at first sight, but once used, you could get really addicted to it. Your tiles are all very wel choosen and combined with other tangles. Great.
ReplyDeleteYes, the 'rounded' tangles look perfect with "IX". And I love your 'tree' tiles. Your work is always so interesting.
