Eye candy! Zentangle ATC swap

(Warning: this post has a LOT of images!)

I signed up for an ATC (Artist Trading Card) swap a couple of months ago. It kept growing until finally there were 47 participants and I wanted to send a card to each one!

The theme or goal was to use black and one color as an accent. Some of my cards were rather heavily accented. :P
Sometimes I make ATCs when I have leftover bits of paper, so I had some already done that would qualify for this swap. A few others I adapted. Some are up cycled; more on that in my next post. Then I created more to fit the theme.

Here are many of them for you to enjoy before I put them in the mail. I'm not going to attempt to list all the tangles!
Some resemble temple roofs. These four all have tiny gems in the matching color.
Some are from a mandala that I up cycled.
Some resemble trees, especially with a blue background.
Some are mandala middles.
I made four cards similar to the one on the lower left.
They're from another piece of art that I up cycled.

  10. These are beautiful... they vibrate with energy!
Do you use colored pencil for the color portions or do you use markers (what kind?)
The colors are soft and yet dynamic because you have a color on color... is that achieved with markers and pencil?

    1. Hi Carmen, I use colored ink pens for the tangle drawing. The trick with using colored ink is to find a colored pencil that's a really close match to do the shading.

I have a full selection of Micron colors, but there's not a wide variety. I also have some Faber-Castell brush tips, a few Zigs (esp. light blue, but it's a larger tip). I want to look into Copic too and perhaps Tombow.

Another factor for me is light-fastness. I don't buy colors that will fade, making it tricky to find pinks and purples. Recently I've been using acrylic washes to put down a base color in some areas.

      Hope this helps!

  17. Margaret I find your artwork really unique! It is really not that easy to play around with symmetry but you have pulled it off so well! I suggest you participate in online talent contests that Tallenge (http://www.tallenge.com/default.html), an online talent platform holds. You will also get to compete against other talented artistes such as yourself and gain a global audience meanwhile!
Hoping to see you there soon
    Regards
    Shelley
