The Diva's challenge this week is to try out a new tangle from Zentangle's Molly Hollibaugh, Arukas. Did you notice that Arukas is Sakura backwards? :)
I tried this tangle when it was first shared with the CZTs and wasn't terribly pleased with the Arukas parts. So I took another chance with it and I think I'm getting a handle on it. Here are my first two attempts, from a few weeks ago.
|
Tangles: Arukas, Lamar, Paradox, Tipple |
In my next attempt I had fun trying a few other things with the basic Arukas.
|
Tangles: Arukas, Fohbraid, Tipple, a Black Pearl, and a little hint of Aquafleur |
My last attempt, and the one I like best so far. The string gave me a circle shape and one of the 'pods'. Being composed simply of lines, I think that Arukas needs some bold blacks (and whites) to set it off. Shading helps too. I realize that I always wanted to begin with a small central shape, but that it works better with a large one.

Tangles: Arukas, Pearlz, Sindoo |
Sehr schöne Tile
ReplyDeleteLots of great variations here. I love your shading too!
ReplyDeleteYour Arukas tangles are so pretty. I like the last one. That's really outstanding.
ReplyDeletetotally beautyful. i can see that you understand the patten, that's why you have doors open to draw beautyful variations.
ReplyDeleteI love them all, but the last one is VERY beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think you make any pattern look good.
ReplyDeleteLove all of your examples. I find that it works better with a large circle (image) in the middle.
ReplyDeleteYour Tiles are so amazing. Your creativity and technical skills are a wonderfully powerful force. Beautiful Tiles, all. I love the sweeping power and grace of the second Tile, and the Akuras/Aqufleur element in the third Tile. The fourth Tile is so beautiful and free flowing. Wonderful Post, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteSo very cool. Each of them is really interesting.
ReplyDeleteOh yes Margaret, the last one features beautifully with the larger circle and adding jazzy effects in the centre......they're all super!
ReplyDeleteWhile they all have their unique qualities, I agree that I like the last one the best also. Like the bold contrast. Have not tried it with a larger central figure. Looks great that way. Probably has something to do with the artist as well. Like the curves.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant works, Margaret.
ReplyDeletevery nice artwork. especially like the last one - nice combination of straight lines and curves, darks and lights
ReplyDeleteAll are beautiful! Great variations of Akuras!
ReplyDeleteI think you really master it now!!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! You are a master at finish work and design!

DeleteTo find a Certified Zentangle Teacher in your vicinity check the Zentangle website (zentangle.com) and look in the drop-down tab 'Learn'. There are CZTs all over; I hope you can find one nearby.
In terms of this blog, I knew nothing when I set it up. It took me a morning, afternoon and evening, but here it is. :) I suggest you choose a blog host you'd like (perhaps blogger or wordpress) and dive in.
