Tiles alone, and mounted for hanging

I've been gearing up for an art show and sale this weekend. Sometimes, instead of framing a piece under glass I decide to mount it on canvas. Sometimes it looks good with the canvas simply painted. Other times it needs something more. Here are a few examples of 'something more'.

These will be on display, and available for purchase at Solar Gardens September 19 and 20, from 11-5. They also have a small restaurant with a wood-fired pizza oven!

IDYLL 

is on a Bijou tile. 

It's mainly colored pencil but there's a bit of tangling here too.

I didn't intend a vaguely stained glass look, but that's what I got. 

I added the white dots at the intersections because the black was too strong.

THE THREE WYRD SISTERS 

is on a classic zentangle tile.
The colored dots at the lower right are metallic ink.

Much as I love the original tile, once it was mounted on canvas it seemed to need a lot of finishing. 

I extended the 'bubbles' out the bottom, and even extended the roof peaks.

NIGHT KNOLL

I posted this tile earlier and have now decided which way is up! Once I'd mounted it on canvas, in addition to painting the surround I added a small, round piece of mother-of-pearl for a moon, and some zigzag tape on the right.

ANDEAN RAINBOWS 

began with a round tile in colored ink and pencil. 

Unfortunately I don't seem to have a photo of the original tile, but I expect you can see it. ;)

I mounted it on canvas and painted the canvas black and off-white. Then I sliced through the canvas in places and ran an actual rainbow-colored ribbon through it in two directions. Occasionally the ribbon was too dark so I added little white stripes on top of it, and to soften the edges a little I put thin white stripes in the black sections outside the ribbons too.
