I found a shell photocopy

I've undertaken a huge clearance project of All My Stuff. It's rather refreshing, although difficult at times, but I'm on a roll. So far I've gone through my clothes, shoes, accessories, and jewellry. I've also gone through my papers, which were in files and binders in a few different places. I emptied two 3" binders and I kept less than 10% of what was in them. I dumped some files and merged others.
One of two large bags of papers to be recycled, and my papers/files now.
Now I'm on to my books. Unfortunately, in assembling all my books I discovered more papers. Oh no! But amongst the papers I discovered this photocopy of a cross-section of a triton shell. (The frilly edge of the shell is missing.) It looked like an interesting 'string' for zentangle drawing.

It was an easy job to trace the outlines of the shell through a white tile.
Tangles: Black Pearlz, Diva Dance (with 'bubbles'), Opus, Pearlz, Printemps, Tipple
I've been enjoying using blues on the Renaissance (tan) tiles and decided to do that and pursue the look of a shell cross-section.
Tangles: Crescent Moon, Dragonaire, Pearlz, Printemps, Tipple, Tortuca
The photocopy kept catching my eye as it lay on my desk, and it always looked like a leaf, so I decided to try that idea. I had also recently seen a new tangle called Aloha (from CZT Suzanne Fluhr) a rather thick-lined leaf and wanted to try it. It became many leaves rather than one.
Tangles: Aloha, Hurly Burly, Leaflet, Tipple

  1. This caught my eye as I was searching for something steampunky. its not steampunky but I love it! I love anything dealing with shells and the sea. I am a contemporary sculptural bead artist and work with driftwood, rocks and sea related items found on the beach or in the ocean. People bring me an item and ask me to bead it as an item they envision. They usually give e me a color scheme they would like used. My pieces take anywhere from two weeks to three months to complete, depending on the complexity of piece. Sadly, a back surgery left me with complications and I now have neurophary and lost the use of my hands. I am slowly building up strength up in my hands an I hope to zentangle once again. This looks intriguing and a great place to start!

    1. I'm SO sorry to hear about your neuropathy! Beading is such fine-motor-skill work too. Wishing you a successful recovery.

  3. This made me chuckle because this is what I frequently do. I call it a '
bird walk'! Cleaning, sorting, focusing on a task, and getting things accomplished. "Oh look, a cool thing to tangle!" And off I go - task at hand forgotten! However, my attempts are never as amazing as yours! Thanks for all the inspiration.

  5. Wow! Margaret! All that cleaning and organizing is calling me too. It's so therapeutic and leads to creativity, but oh, so hard to BEGIN! I so enjoy the energy, creativity and commitment you so obviously have in abundance. My favorite shell from above is the one with the blue. I too delight in using blue on the Renaissance paper! Thanks for sharing with us!

  6. Soooooo beautiful, Margaret - all three of them!! Your talent continues to amaze me. 😃 I too need to go thru All My Stuff. But I'd soooo much rather be tangling! I recently swapped my office & my studio. Once I got my studio set up to suit me, the office just fell by the wayside. Lol ... Good luck with your project. Perhaps seeing/reading about your progress will motivate me!

  7. Your clearance project and art have inspired me! I've been wanting to organize my house junk and art stuff too, but keep putting it off. I'm going to try to tackle my own clearance project this weekend. ;) Love the discovery of the photocopy of the triton shell and that you incorporated as a string for your art! Beautiful series of tiles! Is it ok if I download the triton shell to try to use as a string? I wasn't sure if it was copyrighted.

    1. You're welcome to use the shell photocopy. It's from a nature book I had years ago and can't remember anything about!
When you undertake clearing begin with a really easy category, not a category you'll find difficult.
