At the end of this post last week, I promised to show some notan-style pieces depicting houses and buildings, favorite subject matter of mine. Here they are.
I did two on classic black and white paper.
Then I tried one with white and tan paper. I think this is my least favorite. Perhaps not enough darks.
I was very happy with this black and tan one and hope to do more with these colors.
Finally, I tried a larger one, 6"x 9".
Did you splice the paper, part one color, part the other, as on some of your recent zentangles? I see what you mean about the drama of the black and white ones, and the tan one also carries that, but they're all incredible and so much fun!
ReplyDeleteYes, it’s two colors of paper spliced together.
DeleteI like all of them but I like the large one the most. It looks so cool! I also really like the black/white Notan theme. I want to revisit this idea from the project pack again too.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is WOW! These are amazing. I will definitely have to study them. Great job and such an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Pat!
DeleteWow!!! What incredible half'n'half works of art!! Your ability to blend the 2 colors of paper into a cohesive scene just amazes me. I've tried, on my large computer monitor, to follow the split across each piece, but I keep getting lost! And then there's your fabulously detailed little houses complete with walkways and foliage; tangled, shaded and highlighted into cohesive villages of delight. What a treat to see these! Thank you, Margaret. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jan! I keep wanting to show ‘before’ pictures but I forget to take them!
DeleteThese are great! They remind me of day and night time without the twilight in between. Or shadows coming over the mountains ⛰ . Love them all Terri Y
ReplyDeletehi margaret. I was inspired by your bookmarks to make some. I have made 4 in as many days. Wow I am very impressed with the number you made. That took dedication. Debbie Stefanuk
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret! I greatly admire your work. When you draw a neighborhood do you outline all of the houses first then go back and add the tangled details or does the neighborhood emerge more organically?
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth. The neighbourhoods evolve as I’m working on them. Sometimes I see a house, or roof line, or tree, and I’ll outline it and finish it later.
