In my non-journal, non-sketchbook I wanted to include a notan-inspired page but didn't want tape on the backside. I penciled some dividing lines and used black acrylic paint, watered down, to paint alternating sections.
Notanical is a word I came up with to describe a notan-type beginning tangled with botanical images. See my original post about notanicals here. In my Book, here's the page I began with.
And here it is, appropriately gussied up:
WWWOOOWWW!!! Cheese, I am confused just looking at it. Drawing something like this is - simply said - beyond me! My deepest admiration, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susie!
DeleteMargaret, that's just gorgeous!! Your vision always astounds me. :) Your ability to create boundaries, especially with blocks of solid black, then bend them to your will so gracefully and effectively, is amazing to me! I see what's there; you see what could be there. Just wow ... ... ... :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, the photo of your CZT gathering on 3/31 makes me want to move to B.C.!!! I'd never miss an opportunity to visit with you all. :)
Thanks so much Jan!
DeleteWhether it’s innate or (probably) learned, I do seem to be able to see concrete things through the mist of random marks. Sort of like seeing things in the shapes of clouds I guess!
I keep spotting references to your "Book".......where do I find more info about it etc?
ReplyDeleteSue, it's a book I'm working in, not one I'm publishing. If you click 'journal' or 'sketchbook' in the search bar on my blog you'll see the whole series, beginning with this: https://enthusiasticartist.blogspot.com/2018/08/no-journal-no-sketchbook.html
DeleteWonderful. I love the way it plays tricks on me - and I start losing track of what is white on black and what is the reverse. I'll have to try this at some point, but maybe starting with something really scaled back.
ReplyDeleteClever idea with the black acrylic!
I started doing this on spliced Zentangle tiles. This is one of my larger efforts.
