I love spirals and I love Paradox, but somehow this challenge was a bit daunting, until I got started. The DivaCZT's
challenge this week comes from Marizaan van Beek, a CZT in South Africa. She wants us to use a spiral string with the tangle Paradox. I
usually find that the more tiles I do of a particular challenge, the better they get, so I'm going to show you my second and third efforts. I found myself leaving areas white to keep the spiral in sight, although those issues can be cleared up quite nicely with shading. When I got to the middle I just drew the spiral!

Tangles: Paradox and Rounding |
|
Tangles: Black Pearlz, Knightsbridge, Paradox, and stripes. Also a left-handed border and spiral string. |
I love that your spirals have character and your paradox fills them up with intrigue!
ReplyDeleteLove them both! They have a very "Escher" feel to them.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to leave a comment on your storage of tangles post and it shows up in my reader, but not here on your blog - so the comment goes here. I've tried several ways to manage the wealth of tangles I have accumulated and most recently have settled on this. I've made a 4x6" card with each tangle, it's name and who created it (using the template from TanglePatterns.com). Then I've hole punched it and keep them on a series of keyrings.
ReplyDeleteLike you I needed more categories than just alphabetical, but rather than searching light and dark I tend to search grid or organic so those are my main categories but also I've separated out borders and floral. The rings are portable and easy to flip through when looking for something new to try.
I also keep a master list on the computer that's strictly alphabetical but with light/dark & organic/grid categories (love Excel!). Whew - that's probably more than you cared to know....
BTW, love your spirals - I haven't started mine yet...have to get over the mental "this is going to be hard" refrain in my head...
Hi Terrie, that post was in process and got published accidently! I re-saved it as a draft and wondered if anyone had seen it in that brief time! Not sure why it's showing up on your reader. Those are some good ideas and, in fact, I'll add your suggestions to the post. It'll be along shortly, maybe next week.

ReplyDeleteVery neat. I like the balance of your black and your white areas, and that you have made it look easy to get fans and twisted rolls interacting so nicely!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your tutorial, it is really helpful and inspiring! Your art is so contemporary and really gallery worthy. I really love your two tangles with the challenge ingredients!
ReplyDeleteSuper twists, swirls and turns, Margaret you are the Paradox Queen!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful.... it indeed has a " Escher" feel about it

I think that top one is amazing! A very clever interpretation of the challenge.
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret! I saw your post in my reader too, and couldn't wait to see what the final storage ideas were for your tangles..but then couldn't find the post! Can't wait to see that post! LOVE these tangles...a perfect mixture of dark and light!
ReplyDeleteBTW...I have directions on my blog for how to turn off word verification and moderation your comments before they post. I've input the verification words 3 times now and haven't gotten them right yet...so here goes one more time...
Susan, if you check back here I'd love to have the directions for turning off the verification but still be able to read before publishing. E-mail me or send a blog post link. And thanks!
ReplyDeleteoooo I love the the first one especially
ReplyDeleteI love both of your interpretations Margaret!!! When I look at the first tile I see an eye - the spiral being the pupil and the paradox being the iris - it's AWESOME!!!! Thanks for sharing all that you do - I learn so much from visiting your blog! You're a FANTASTIC teacher as well as artist!
ReplyDeleteLove both of your tiles! It's so much fun to see all the different results to the challenge. I really like your use of white space. I have the hardest time with that. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Patty. I can feel my head swelling!
