On the corner of my desk I spotted a tan tile that has been there for quite a while. It had a random wash in yellow and blue, and always looked darned unattractive, but with possible possibilities. I decided to use blue and green ink. Crescent Moon is one of my 'comfort tangles'. Moving Day and Prestwood are my own tangles that I haven't used in a while. And Mooka... I can finally do it!!! The result is quite unusual, and I love it!
Tangles: Crescent Moon, Knase, Mooka, Moving Day, Prestwood, Tipple, Tripoli |
But I also really wanted to try Sharla's idea of using Gelly Roll pens with water for colored 'shading'. Why hadn't I thought of that? I took another stalled piece, this one on a round tile. Most of the black ink drawing was there and I added color with Sakura's regular and metallic Gelly Roll pens. Wow! I like how that works! Especially the metallic ink which gives a lovely bit of sparkle.
Tangles: hmm, I think it's just Crescent Moon, and some other stuff. |
I love the happy colors of the second one! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteMMMM! Two really pretty tiles. I love the idea of the gelly pens and water shading. Thank you! All my things are packed away, or I would try this right away. (We are hopefully selling and moving soon.)

Thanks Terri. Best of luck with the selling and moving. We are looking to that in our future too, maybe next year.
DeleteLove the color of them both, and the compositions are awesome !
ReplyDeleteLike your first one but the second is stunning. I thought about trying that technique but I did a lot of mine in mini- sessions and did not have the tools to use the water. After seeing yours, will definitely have to try it. The color combo is great.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm sure it could be done with an ordinary brush if one doesn't have a waterbrush, just a little more dipping required.
DeleteThey're both absolutely beautiful. The first one is my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteMagaret....Beautiful tile...I really like all the colors that I can see...(partially color blind)...some I can and some I can't but this one strikes me as in the beautiful category...and I don't know how it can be improved at all. Nicely done.
ReplyDeletefrom Duane.
As always, you inspire me with your rich, and gorgeous tiles!
ReplyDeletewonderful done. i like the first one, that combination of green and blue, but i must say, that i love all of your work i saw :o)
ReplyDeleteI think both are great, but the first one is awesome! I love the colors from blue to green and the compostion.
ReplyDeleteI love them both! Your colors are just so beautiful and vibrant....you are inspiring me to try this challenge.
ReplyDeleteBoth of your tiles exhibit a mastery of the Art. They are so lovely, and your ability to blend the patterns together, and shade them is wonderful. The whole dynamic of water color shading is wonderful and I am going to start exploring that yesterday. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteThank you David! There's a little tutorial on Sharla's blog about using the Gel pens with water for the watercolor effect. I'd never tried it before but I'm now a fan!

Yikes, that's a really long url!
I really like both of your pieces!! The first is very engaging with the color and shapes and the 2nd it is fun to hear how you spiced it up!!
ReplyDeleteMy blog is down right now so I am on another url.

They are both beautiful. I love the idea of salvaging things. Put it down for a while till the juices flow in that direction again!
ReplyDeletemy gelly roll coloring never looked that fabulous! Your work is always awesome!
ReplyDeleteI used a different method from Sharla, although reqiring more speed. :)
DeleteI put some Gelly Roll ink where I wanted it darkest, then immediately went to it with s wet brush to spread it into the entire area.
Really love the balance of organic and geometric you achieved on the first tile. And lovely use of colors! I always run into trouble when I add more than one color to my tiles, but yours look amazing!
