The center cut out of the page, a gold border, the fine twine, and a pin for poking holes. |
Holes poked, clips holding the art page in place, and part of the sewing done. |
I changed my mind often during the process, at the same time thinking about how I would finish if I did run out of twine. In the end, I had enough, just enough, and tied the two ends in a reef knot with the aid of tweezers. Hurray!
I drew on both sides first. Here is the page, sewn in:
I'm not certain the second side is done. I wanted to leave a lot of the eco-dye showing without embellishment, but it just seems a bit unfinished. Maybe it's my "when in doubt, add more" kicking in!
Clever way to add a page, whilst also being incredibly beautiful! I think the second page counts as done, but equally if you feel inclined to add a little more. Makes me think of eating, feeling full, pushing the plate away, then some minutes later taking another little nibble!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I’m going to leave it for now. There are a few other pages that are works in progress .
DeleteWhat a creative and GORGEOUS addition to your nonjournal!! And that tiny, shiny border! Is it paint, tape or ?? I always appreciate seeing how you tangle eco-dyed paper. I have some which I gaze at now and then ... and I see ... only nature's art and am seldom able to envision what I might add! I must study the befores and afters you have posted for inspiration. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! The gold (and copper on the second page) was done with Sakura metallic pens.
DeleteMaybe take a piece of your eco-dyed paper and just start, make a mark (the “four dots” in Zentangle) and let it lead you.
So clever and a beautiful result! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying your beautiful drawings for a few years. Thank you very much for all the sharing. This interesting way of inserting has shown your creativity again. And your eco-dyed colours look as yummy as always! May I ask you what camera you're using to capture such subtly rich colors?
ReplyDeleteThank you! Lately I’ve been taking photos with my iPhone, sending them to my computer, and tweaking the light and color before posting. (I also have a scanner which is now working again - hurray! - so I’ll be using that more.)
DeleteWhat a wonderful way to insert a page without adding weight to the journal. Thank you for sharing how you did it - I think that both sides are lovely!!
