Tangled letters by students

Last Wednesday we had our last in a four-class series and did tangled letters. It was around -35 C. and almost everyone made it to the class! Most are not quite finished, but here's what was created in two hours.

It was agreed that shading outside the letters looks better than inside. (You can see this in the 'gd'. The 'g' is going to be changed!)
I have a binder of tangle instructions that I take to classes like this so people can find other tangles they'd like to try. This group found quite a few: Betweed, Bateek, Boss, Riverstones, Lotus Pods, Lilypads, Seljuk and Tripoli.

  1. These tangle letters are looking lovely.
I also tried tangle art for the first time. Let me know your views. Link below.

  2. I have decided that most of us who blog appreciate (but tire) of the usual "greats, goods, awesome, amazing, etc etc.". So how to show appreciation of real work without resorting to tired adjectives!

a thesaurus said for "great": prominent, eminent, important, distinguished, illustrious, celebrated, honored, acclaimed, admired, esteemed, revered, renowned, notable, famous, famed, well-known; leading, top, major, principal, first-rate, matchless. Now these are really lovely words too.

Often I "celebrate" your work with creative plagiarism which I hope shows my esteem for your work.
Now I am even apt to do the same with your student's work!

Working "outside" the letters, I agree, IS by far more "first rate".

I am interested that you teach a 4-part class.
It would be fun to know more about how you "lay out" the format for each of these.
Thank you again for the tireless sharing of your "celebrated" work!

    1. Thanks Ginny. That's a lot of adjectives!
I had done an 8 week series but that just wasn't going to fit my schedule over these months so I did the usual first three and then a special project.

  3. These are wonderful Margaret - this must have been a wonderful class! What size are these? I really like tangling around the outside of the letters.

    1. Hiya, these are 4"x6". I had three types of paper available to try too: hemp paper, vellum bristol, and 'parchment'.
