Five more Book pages

My Book only has perhaps a dozen pages left in it. I haven't been in a hurry to fill it, wanting it to add something new only when I felt inspired. These are the most recent additions.

I was rather taken with two tangles, Salt (the hexagons) from Franciose Lip and Amazing Spider (in the background) from Hennie Brouwer. 

Two of the recent project packs from Zentangle had flower-like results, which I enjoyed reproducing in my Book.

I was charmed by Cherryl Moote's tangle Morrisseau. Some of the elements here are collaged, some are drawn on the page.

I've occasionally worked with found text, so I did that on one page. I tore two pages from the same book and glued them into my larger book, then hunted and tangled.

I've been loving the stains left by my husband's hibiscus tea bags: pinks, purples, blues, grays, browns, ochres... Unfortunately, the paper in this book is not as friendly towards them as is the Tiepolo paper of the Zentangle tiles. This page ended up with only grays, and rather wrinkly. I also tried using some stencils with the teabags.

Zentangle's Project Pack #13

Transitions...   water-soluable graphite...   clear Glaze ink...   resists...   

DAY ONE - I liked Maria's results in the demonstrated tile, but mine looked dull and dark. So I did two others, 'inspired by'.

DAY TWO - A 3D look using a particular fragment and clear Glaze ink resist.

DAY THREE - I couldn't help but see a sunflower as this progressed. Then, of course, I had to try one in color. I like the black-and-white one better!

I had two Phi tiles with hibiscus teabag stains. One looked liked another sunflower, the other looked rose-like.

DAY FOUR - Crazy Cadent with clear Glaze resist and graphite wash. I did gathered corners in some of my Cadent.

DAY FIVE - Using the Glaze pen in sections of Aquafleur, and the water-soluable graphite elsewhere. I tried another one - 'inspired by' - on a tan, hibiscus-teabag-stained tile.

DAY SIX - Mooka transitioning to Springkle transitioning to Bunzo, beginning with a graphite wash of lines.

DAY SEVEN - Ing in thick lines of clear Glaze, then washed in graphite. Rick went in an interesting direction, "erasing" micron lines from the Glaze, but I had seen another direction, and wanted to try nestling rows of Ing.

DAY EIGHT - Lots of possibilities shown for using the water-soluable graphite to create strings from which to be inspired! Here are some of my results:

A slightly-curvy square grid became Cubine and Dex and a few Pearlz.

A dripped orb became Arukas and Within with hints of a tangle whose name I can't recall!

A spiral string filled with the spiral tangle Ohana.

A series of wet graphite rows called for Romanancy, and a row of Rayga. 

A partial orb with drips got turned upside down to make different drips.

Project Pack 11 - Phi ratios

When I returned home after three weeks away, Project Pack 11 was waiting for me! I quickly opened it to see what treasures lay inside. Of course! Why didn't I think of that? Phi-dimension tiles! I love sacred geometry. I even have some golden mean rulers.

Having been away, I found myself rather inundated with Things To Do and wasn't able to enjoy this immediately. But eventually I had a great time!

Day One: Dividing the tile according to phi ratios and drawing Pokeroot (I used Pokeleaf).

Day Two: Drawing the tangle Gourdgeous along one of the phi lines. In Canada we call this a "goord" while in the US it's a "gord". I've realized that the name of this tangle is "gorgeous", not "goordjus"! 😜

Tangles: Black Pearlz, Gourdgeous, Krli-Qs

Day Three: Drawing on the back of the tile, following pre-strung the nautilus spiral using Crescent Moon. I got inspired and drew a Gourdgeous nautilus spiral on the "back" of this tile, actually the intended "front".

Day Four: Drawing a Hollis-inspired, droplet-ended Mooka, then adding color with colored chalk pencils. I added a border of Doodah. On one of the phi intersections I added the tangle Within in gold.

Day Five: Ing, along one of the phi lines, filling the triangles in various ways, then adding color. It's interesting how it  ended up in the center of the tile anyway. I like Ing a lot, so I did two. 😊 In the first, two phi intersections are indicated by the Black Pearlz; in the second, by the Pearlz rings.

Day Six: Drawing a square around one of the phi intersections and creating a square grid around it.  Then, filling alternately with Cubine and a variation of Well, sort of.

Day Seven: A diagonal line passing through two of the phi intersections, then subdividing the tile into smaller and smaller phi squares. In the leftover spaces in the center I kept seeing rectangles, so I drew the lines and added random Jalousie.

Day Eight: Molygon, and more, centered on one of the phi intersections. I couldn't not see a flower here so I added Icantoo.

"Winter Garden" process

This time I have a beginning, a middle, and an end photo to show you. Again I'm using the broken scarf hanger as a template for the floral mandala shape on a 10.5" Opus tile.

The beginning: a bit of Inktense for some washes of color.

The middle:

The end: there are "liquid pearls" scattered throughout, which gives the sparkly impression of falling snow. I also used a bit of metallic, glossy, and stardust inks, none of which shows in this photo!

"Autumn Garden" process

Repurposing, sort of.
I had a scarf hanger but the hanger part broke off. I liked the shapes of it and decided to use it as a template. It fit on an Opus tile!

I used Inktense and Aquatone pencils to do washes in the various sections:

Then I began the tangling in ink.

Ink drawing completed, copper metallic ink in a few places, colored pencil added, a lot of fine tuning, and it's done.

In my Book: a sunflower and the flower of life

More pages in my Book. This project has rather taken over my life. :S

Sunflower meditation. I had done something like this at one of the OgunquiTangle retreats and found the quotation online. I liked the piece and it's been sold, so I did a reprise in my Book.

I've done work based on the Flower of Life pattern, so I did a page with that design. I added the hummingbird when I found it among my Art Stuff. It's a nod to another hummingbird I added to another flower-of-life piece.

Notanicals

I've been doing some notan-inspired work recently, a lot of houses but also plants. Botanical things. I like word play and came up with the term "notanical" for these pieces.

Tangles: Black Pearlz, Icantoo, Munchin, Opus, Pearlz,
Tipple, Zonked,and an element of Paizel

This one became a rose, and needed to be diagonal.

I tried one with tan instead of white, using CZT Hanny Nura's tangle Icantoo. Imagine the first image with the black and tan reversed; that's what I started with. The second image is the completed notanical. The 'moon' is drawn with copper metallic ink.

L and G wedding

We have three daughters and when they've married I've done letters for the couples as wedding gifts. First, in January 2011, there was C and R. Then, in May 2017, came V and S. Finally, in December 2017 was L and G. As like V&S, L&G each have a tiny 24 carat gold heart on their art.

Space junk in my Book

Space junk. Junk from my art space. This is how the page began.

I had divided the page vertically, and filled some spaces, then realized that the left side was too empty. I hunted down more space junk: a couple of squares from a grid of irises that I never completed.

No more collage but more tangling, and it's coming along nicely.

Here's the finished page. I'm rather pleased with it, considering I had no idea how it might develop.
